Marie Claire — 4 months Internship

During my internship, I designed some of the digital and physical covers for magazines. I participated in Power Trip's brand design and visual planning proposal (Marie Claire China's Power Trip featured China's first all-female guest lineup fashion event in Shanghai and Suzhou in June 2021.) I was responsible for designing relevant posters, participating in activities planning, and drawing the layout of the activity site.

Role: Visual Design

Responsibilities: Brand Identity Design, Mobile Interface Design, Design System, Event Management

Time: 02 2021 — 06 2021

What I accomplished

01 Cover and Layout Design

I participated in designing the magazine covers and contents. Also, I created a wireframe for mobile interfaces which can provide a static layout for different content on social media.

02 Font and Poster Design

I designed some font combinations used in social media and notable edition magazines.

03 Marie Claire Power Trip Visual Proposal

Marie Claire China’s Power Trip featured China’s first all-female guest lineup fashion event, held in Shanghai and Suzhou in June 2021. This incredible and high profile POWER TRIP invited more than 40 celebrities, stars and  20 influential female CEOs to a 72-hour Power trip.  All guests wore black and white suits (Le Smoking theme), demonstrating the beauty of pure female power. I participated in proposing the visual style and poster composition for Marie Claire Power Trip.

Takeaways

The internship absolutely increases my knowledge of visual design and brand identity in the advertising industry. I learned a lot during such a short period of time.

Storytelling & Presentation skills

During the internship, I had to tell the management and Marketing Department why I chose this design. Through the investigation of the background of the activity, I explained my mind course in the design process. I learned much about presentation skills and how to organize my design process.

Learning to navigate through conflicting feedback

Although understanding everyone's perspectives is essential to move forward but can be conflicting sometimes, I learned to make more informed decision about my design with stronger rationales.

Organize while design

I worked with a bunch of magazines because I needed to get some inspiration and be careful with the design consistency with the existing layout. Therefore, I found out the importance of organizing. Having everything sorted out makes for a more cohesive design.
