Gatorade Mobile AR Experience is an innovative augmented reality experience designed for the trade show booth environment. This AR experience has been integrated across various conferences that Gatorade attends. Attendees can interact with the physical booth to access information and engage with AR filters, enhancing their booth engagement and sharing the experience on social media.
Impact
Across all four conferences, the Gatorade AR platform engaged over
4,000 attendees
Resulting in 2,356 user engagements
Increasing the Gatorade Performance Community by more than 1,000 new members.
The Gatorade AR experience will be continuously used in different conferences that Gatorade attends, providing valuable information and expanding Gatorade's community outreach.
Gatorade participates in various trade shows across the United States to display new products, attract users to their community, and promote their strategy globally. They sought a digital experience to complement their physical booth and achieve these goals.
How might we create a fun experience that makes Gatorade's booth stand out at conferences, provides attendees with easy access to resources, and achieves the client's goals?
Client Objectives
Problem
To better understand the conferences Gatorade will attend and target audiences to provide a better solution, I researched the specific needs and characteristics of each event.
Target Audiences
Research Takeaway
After researching the show information, it became clear that each conference has its key target audience, so I found attendees who had attended each of the four conferences to learn about their needs and personalities.
Our research revealed that the diverse target audiences at these conferences value interactive, informative, and engaging experiences that can seamlessly integrate with their learning and networking goals. The need for a flexible, engaging digital solution that can adapt to various show environments and audience preferences led us to develop the Gatorade AR Experience.
Research
After many stages of pitching and proposing various ideas such as an AR scavenger hunt, customized games, and competitive virtual games, we developed a unified AR platform. This platform combines information access with fun, interactive AR technology to create a direct and engaging experience.
The Development Story
To bring this AR platform to life, I began with a rough prototype, conducting user tests to refine the concept based on feedback. These insights informed detailed mock-up designs that were presented to clients in the early stages.
Solution
One AR Platform
for all conferences
Easily Activate AR
Set up branded image targets in the booth space to activate the AR application. Start attendees' virtual augmented reality adventure.
Scan the Image Target in the Product Display Sample Area
Scan the Image Target in the Community Area
Tight Giveaway to Encourage Attendees to Join Community
Leveraging the unique characteristics of augmented reality, our platform doesn't require additional booth space, making it ideal for both large and small booths.
It allows attendees to explore the booth, access detailed product information, and participate in entertaining activities tied to giveaways, enhancing booth engagement and meeting Gatorade's promotional goals.
The bubbles spread out from the image target with all the products, including new product launches and innovative technology. Click into the product to see more information.
Four eye-catching 3D models pop up to give attendees a feeling of surprise. They can learn about resources available for Gatorade Performance community members and be encouraged to join and get the giveaway.
From the research of the target audiences, I found out target audiences are highly interested in the giveaways Gatorade would give. So I used the giveaway aspect as a CTA function and made being a community member a prerequisite for that. This strategy attracts more members and collects potential customers’ information.
AR Jumping Experience
for NSCA Conference
NSCA has an existing force plate technology to help Gatorade record attendees' information and provide a fun jumping experience during booth visits. We added AR filters to the original force plate, allowing attendees to jump with fun filters and download or share their video.
This experience aligns with strength coaches' passion for engaging and memorable activities.

Video Wall Tie-in
Due to the large booth space at NATA, we developed an interactive 'selfie station' with an Augmented Reality video filter. Attendees can have a fun and engaging experience and be featured on the LED video wall along with their peers."
This aligns with athletic trainers' goals of networking and exploring the booth.
Once they have a video they like, and they continue, they can then download the video to their device so they can share out on social media and also submit their video to the community wall where they will be featured in a collage of stills from all the submitted videos from all attendees
